VISA FOR AGED PARENTS (SUBCLASS 804)
If their child is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or qualified New Zealand citizen who has settled in Australia, elder parents who are currently in possession of temporary visas may do so permanently.
There is currently a significant queue for this specific visa, and approval times can range from seven to thirteen years. Aged parents who qualify may wish to apply for the Contributory Aged Parent visa, although this stream will charge a higher application cost and demand an Assurance of Support bond.
Aged Parent Visa – Subclass 804 Requirements
You must be the parent of either:
- A national of Australia
- A citizen or permanent resident of Australia
- A qualified citizen of New Zealand.
- Additionally, if your child is under 18, you might be sponsored by:
- spouse of your child (must be over 18 and an eligible citizen of Australia, a permanent resident, or both)
- a close family member or your child’s legal guardian
- a close family member or your child’s child’s legal guardian
- a group in the neighbourhood.
- Men who are aged parents must be 65 years of age or older to qualify.

Aged parents must also pass the “balance of family” exam, which demands the following:
- 50% of your children must be Australian citizens; or
- Compared to other foreign nations, you have the most children who are permanent residents in Australia.
- Additionally, you need a promise from a person or group of people willing to provide you an assurance of support.
- A legal promise to give you financial support so you won’t need to rely on social security benefits is known as “Assurance of Support.”
- You may have a maximum of three (3) people who can guarantee your support.
