Temporary Contributory Parent Visa (Subclass 173)

Features

This visa enables the temporary residence in Australia of the parents of a settled Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

If this visa is approved and you want to live permanently in Australia, you can then apply for a Contributory Parent visa (subclass 143).

You can spread the costs of your migration over a number of years by applying for this temporary subclass 173 visa before the permanent subclass 143 visa.

Eligibility

You must be the parent of an eligible New Zealand citizen, Australian citizen, or permanent resident.

Your children must reside in Australia at least half the time or more frequently than any other country.

2 years is the duration

Summary

The initial Australian government fee for Subclass 173 is $3,055, and the spouse fee is $1,530. This is a temporary visa. It costs $29,130 to pay the second installment before the visa can be issued. The processing of this visa typically takes more than 12 years. A temporary visa good for two years is given to the applicants. They need to pay an extra $19,420 and apply for the permanent visa subclass 143 before this visa expires.

In every case, the second payment of funds is only necessary once all applicants have passed character and health checks and the AoS (Assurance of Support; see below for details on the AoS) has been filed with the Australian government. A second installment will never be paid and a visa won’t be issued. Second installments are never refundable.

The following fees apply to the subclass 173 > subclass 143 pathway:

*1.4% surcharge for credit cards.
