PROCESS FOR APPLICATIONS
The Department of Home Affairs (DOHA) has received this application on your and your sponsor’s behalf. The relationship and your sponsor must satisfy the aforementioned requirements in order to qualify. You must also pass the usual health and character checks.
You can visit Australia with this visa, which has a nine to fifteen month validity period, before you tie the knot with your fiancé(e). When you apply, you must be outside of Australia; however, when your visa is approved, you may be inside or outside of Australia. The marriage must take place within nine to fifteen months of the date your visa was granted, i.e., during the visa’s validity period. It might occur in another country besides Australia.
Following up: Partner Visa
You will be qualified to submit an application for a Partner visa once you have arrived in Australia and your marriage has been consummated. Prior to the expiration of your prospective marriage visa, this application must be submitted. The following are the primary prerequisites for a Partner visa:
- Your relationship with your spouse is one of mutual exclusion.
- Your partnership is sincere and ongoing.
- You either cohabitate as a couple or only occasionally live apart.
If you can satisfy the necessary requirements, you will be given a temporary partner visa that is good for a “stand-down period” of roughly two years after the application is submitted. If your relationship still satisfies the aforementioned criteria after the two-year period, you will be qualified for a permanent Partner visa
NOTE: Depending on how quickly you (and your sponsor, if applicable) provide us with the necessary supporting information and documents, the preparation and filing of your application may take several weeks.
The DOHA’s processing time service standards and a number of additional factors, such as the complexity of your case, perceived risk factors, and processing priorities, all influence how long it takes to process your application. Related: Partner visas and family violence
For partner visas, the recent changes to sponsored family visas have not yet been put into effect. The modifications required that Sponsorships be submitted and approved before Partner visas could be submitted. Onshore Partner visa applicants who wanted to submit a visa application before their substantive visa expired would have been negatively impacted by this change. Before a legitimate Partner visa application could be submitted, the sponsorship application would have to be evaluated separately and approved.
We advise scheduling an appointment if you intend to apply for a Partner visa so that you can talk about and comprehend how these changes may affect you.
