The Graduate Work Stream visa is intended for international students who have recently graduated (with at least a Diploma) and possess the knowledge and abilities that particular Australian occupations require. It enables you to temporarily reside, study, and work in Australia.
Common standards
Both the Graduate Work Stream and the PSWV (Post Study Work) stream share a number of requirements:
- .Age: At the time of filing, the primary applicant must be under 50.
- .English: The primary applicant must provide proof of their proficiency in the English language, either by possessing a specific type of passport or by taking an English test. At the time of filing, proof of threshold English must be supplied.
- .Study in Australia: You must fulfil the two-year study requirement and have earned your degrees within six months of submitting your visa application.
- .The Temporary Graduate subclass 485 visa does not require a points test.

You can apply for family members to join you in Australia on 485 visas if you already have a 485 visa.
PERIOD AND CONDITIONS
The 485 visa’s duration will depend on your specific situation. Gradual Work Stream Visas are good for 18 months after the application is approved.
The length of the PSW depends on your degree and if you finished your studies in an Australian regional area. Your PSW period will be as follows if you study in Melbourne, Sydney, or Brisbane:
- .completion of a bachelor’s degree, a bachelor’s with distinction, a master’s by coursework, or a master’s (extended) in two years.
- .3 years: Research Master’s
- .Doctorate in four-year
You can work as much as you want in Australia while you have a 485 visa.

The English language requirement has been significantly reduced, which will be a huge relief for applicants who have failed to get the minimum score needed in each band.
Important Points to Keep in Mind
- There is currently no information on whether the assessment authorities would adjust their English language criteria for the Graduate Work skills examination. Some skills assessment authorities (such the Accounting Professional Bodies) require English testing.
- The necessary scores for passing the OET have not changed.
- Similar English language requirements apply to the Recognised Graduate Subclass 476 visa.

For candidates seeking for this visa starting on June 10, 2022, many skills assessment authorities will stop accepting new skills assessment applications.
Changes to the 485 Graduate Work Stream Visa starting on June 1, 2022
For applications submitted between 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023, inclusive, the Department of Home Affairs has temporarily abolished the requirements for applicants for a Subclass 485 visa in the Graduate Work Stream to nominate an acceptable skilled occupation and to obtain a skills assessment.
In this way, it aligns the Graduate Work Stream with the Post Study Work Stream.
These changes would encourage a wider range of graduates with degree, diploma, and trade qualifications to live and work in Australia for an additional temporary period even though they do not currently qualify for the Subclass 485 visa in the Graduate Work stream because their related occupations are not on the current list of specified eligible occupations.
