South Australia has opened its migration program for 2023-24, extending invitations to both onshore and offshore skilled workers from more than 250 occupations. Visa conditions and procedures for offshore applicants remain unchanged, but onshore applicants will now shift to a Registration of Interest (ROI) process.

The South Australian government initiated its migration program for the current fiscal year last week, welcoming individuals to submit a complimentary Registration of Interest (ROI) for state nomination.

This action follows a notable reduction in the number of visa nomination slots allocated to the state, which now stands at 2,300, in contrast to the 8,800 spots assigned in the prior year (2022-23).

But in the current year, the state has introduced a new requirement for applicants already within Australia (both Subclass 190 and Subclass 491), stating that they can no longer directly apply for state nomination.

“This implies that prospective applicants must present a Registration of Interest (ROI) and await an invitation from South Australia to apply for state nomination,” the spokesperson explained. For applicants who are outside of Australia, the procedure remains unchanged, and the state will keep inviting candidates to apply for nomination through Expressions of Interest submitted in SkillSelect.
