POINTS-TESTED SKILLED SELF-DE VISA (SUBCLASS 189) STREAM
Features
This stream is for skilled workers in low points who are not sponsored by a business, relatives, or the state or territory government. It lets you to stay and work always in Australia.
You must submit an interest form for the Skilled Independent (Points-tested) stream.
You might be qualified to apply for the Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189) (New Zealand) stream if you are a citizen of New Zealand.
Eligibility
- possess a position on the 189 occupation list (MLTSSL) that is relevant
- possess an accurate assessment of your skills for the job
- submit an EOI and receive an invitation to apply
- to score at least 65 points on the points test.

The method
Send an Expression of Interest (EOI) through SkillSelect with information about your chosen profession, your skills, and your qualifications. You will be ranked against other immigrant intenders by SkillSelect according to an estimated points score. There is more information available about EOIs, such as invitation rounds and occupation ceilings.
You will be invited to apply for the visa if you are ranked highly enough and there are openings in your chosen occupation.
If you accept the invitation, you have 60 days to apply for a visa.
Points total
The point total specified in your invitation letter must be met. This rating will be at least 65 points.
Your invitation letter’s rating is determined by the data in your EOI.
When you are invited to apply for a visa, you must be able to meet the eligibility requirements in terms of points.

An application for the visa must be submitted by everyone who wants to be invited.
EOI. Your EOI will remain in the pool for up to two years after you submit it, at which point it will be compared to those of other prospective applicants to determine whether you will be invited to apply for the visa. An EOI can be submitted for free.

Do I Have to Apply in Australia or Abroad?
When you submit your EOI, you can be inside or outside of Australia. When you submit an application for a Subclass 189 Skilled Independent Visa, you may be in Australia or abroad. You would need to possess a substantive visa or a bridging A, B, or C visa in order to be able to lodge from within Australia. Once you submit your application from within Australia, you will be issued a bridging visa that will allow you to stay in the country while your visa is being processed. You might not be able to apply for the 189 visa while you were in Australia if your current visa is rejected or cancelled.
