The method

The government of each State and Territory has compiled a list of the jobs that are in demand there. There can be certain requirements based on your job history, proficiency with the English language, or other talents.

Send an expression of interest (EOI) through SkillSelect with information about your chosen profession, your talents, and your qualifications. If you receive a high enough score on SkillSelect’s estimated points scale, Australian state and territory government organisations will be able to view your EOI and determine whether they want to nominate you.

You will be given the opportunity to apply for the visa if you are nominated by a state or territorial agency. If you accept the invitation, you have 60 days to apply for a visa. After that, your visa application will be processed.

See here to view the 190 visa processing time.

Your invitation letter’s rating is determined by the data in your EOI.

Do I Have to Apply in Australia or Abroad?

You can be in or outside Australia when you submit your EOI. You can either be in Australia or overseas when you apply for a Subclass 190 Skilled Nominated Visa. To be able to lodge from within Australia, you would need to hold a substantive visa or a Bridging A, B or C visa. Once you apply from within Australia, you will receive a bridging visa allowing you to remain in Australia during processing of your visa application. If your current visa is refused or cancelled you might not be eligible to apply for the 190 visa while you were in Australia.
